Working deeply and flexibly with individuals, couples and groups for the past twenty years has given Maria the opportunity to witness people’s lives evolving to include more of what they love; she believes in the power of an examined life.
The desire to create a studio to serve people in the throes of dating emerged from a desire and ability to give people the insights to determine what resonates best for themselves relationally. (She simultaneously feels that our solo existence can be as rich and satisfying as when shared in couple-hood.)
Maria believes a fulfilling life comes from people being the heroes of their own stories; seeing time and again the growth and beauty of our resilience that comes from dealing directly with our pain, loneliness, loss and obstacles, as well as spectacular adventures. Her passion for this work comes from a desire to be a part of people’s courageous experiences of understanding who they are while letting go of who they aren’t.
Maria has had a vast array of experiences providing psychotherapy since 1998, including serving individuals, couples and providing group psychotherapy. In addition to her work with modern daters, she continues to provide individual psychotherapy for adults seeking meaning and relief from symptoms of depression, anxiety and life changes.
Combining analytical skills from her previous work with her graduate degrees in existential psychology and clinical social work has provided her the foundation for a career she finds immensely meaningful. Maria’s previous career in environmental science rendered her the opportunity to work within corporations, small businesses and government organizations which she uses now to better understand the situations of her clients. She pulls from all domains of her experience and education to help her clients find paths toward what thrills them.
Maria has been in private practice for over a decade. Her clients include urban professionals in the tech industry, higher education, and creative endeavors; as well as stay-at-home parents; other therapists and people transitioning in their lives. She has also provided psychotherapy to immigrants and refugees; worked with child and adult victims of physical and sexual abuse; provided crisis support; worked with elder adults; facilitated groups for people with overeating challenges; …and managed the smallest certified organic farm in the state with clients with severe mental illness.
